Temple Island

• What is the strange device near the cage?
  

  This puzzle will need to be solved later in the game.

• How does the rotating room work?
  

  The room has five sides. You've probably guessed by now that you can rotate the room to line up the doors with various hidden corridors. You won't be able to solve this puzzle until you've found the second outside entrance to the rotating room.

• How do I get through the wooden gate?
  

  Check the entrance carefully from top to bottom.

• What do the switches connected to pipes do?
  

  Does the diagram on the pipe remind you of something you've already seen? You can see steam escaping from the pipes. Notice what happens when you throw the lever. Try to figure out where the pipes go.

• What do I do in the large dome?
  

  When you enter you'll see a lever on your left. Try it and nothing happens. That might mean that you need to turn on the power somewhere else before the lever will work. Notice that there are five pipes leading to the center. The number five keeps showing up in Riven, doesn't it?

• How do I open the large temple door?
  

  Does the large glowing object remind you of something you saw in the previous room?

• How do I figure out where the marbles go on the grid?
  

  You must place five colored marbles on the grid to represent the locations of the five Fire Marble Domes on Riven's islands. The Map Room on Plateau Island helps determine the exact grid location of each dome, and the Survey Room on Plateau Island helps determine the appropriate colors to use.

Jungle Island

• What do I do with the idol in the forest?
  

  There's a switch in this area which will allow you to open the idol's mouth.

• What does the device by the spinning domes do?
  

  This device can be used to stop the dome from spinning. Can you figure out how?

• What do I do with the levers in the small building?
  

  Leave the floor in the closed position.

• What is the device at the top of the ladders?
  

  It's a submarine which can take you to several destinations on the lake. Beside each one is a strange, funnel-shaped hole in the water that permits you to open the sub's hatch. However, you can't step onto the piers unless ladders have been extended from them. Some piers already have ladders extended; others don't.

• What do the five switches do?
  

  Flip the switches so that all of them are in the up position. This will extend all of the ladders, allowing you to enter or exit the sub at each of the destinations.

• What do I do in the school?
  

  In the school, there is a game which lowers two small figures towards a hungry wahrk. Examine this game carefully and you'll be able to learn the D'ni numbering system. You'll need to understand these numbers in order to solve a later puzzle.

• What happened to the guy in the prison?
  

  Obviously he must have escaped through a secret exit. Where is it?

• Why is it so dark in the tunnel?
  

  You'll need to turn on the light bulbs that are located throughout the tunnel.

• What do I do in the room with stones?
  

  There is a secret way out of this room, but you'll need to click five stones in a certain sequence to find it. The wooden eyes you've seen previously provide crucial information for solving this puzzle. Each eye is associated with an animal and each eye has a D'ni number written on it. This information will give you the proper sequence.

Crater Island

• How do I get into the boiler room?
  

  The boiler is powered by a steam pipe coming from the lake. The boiler's controls include a wheel which drains or fills the tank, a switch which turns the furnace on and off, and a switch which raises or lowers a grate inside the boiler. Take your time and experiment with all of the controls.

• Where do I go from the room on the mountain?
  

  Remember to close doors behind you.

• How do I get into the lab building?
  

  Look at the right side of the lab building and you'll see a large pipe. Notice that a wire runs along the side of the walkway.

Plateau Island

• What do I do here?
  

  The plateaus represent Riven's islands, but can you figure out which one is which? The device provides crucial information for solving the Marble Puzzle in the Golden Dome. What are you trying to locate on these maps? What do the marbles in the Marble Puzzle represent?

• What are the lights in the viewer?
  

  The patterns on the wheel and the colors of the corresponding lights can help you to solve the Marble Puzzle.
